Time matters — a knocked-out tooth has the best chance of being saved if it's handled quickly. Pick the tooth up by the crown (the chewing surface), not the root. Gently rinse it without scrubbing, and if you can, place it back in the socket. If you can't, store it in milk or saliva — not water.
